To our entire Delaware National Guard family, It’s hard for me to believe this is the 18th year that I have had the privilege of sending this message. As each calendar year comes to an end, it is appropriate that we reflect on what we’ve accomplished in support of our state and nation. We are undoubtedly the Indispensable Hometown Force with a global reach, a constitutionally unique full-spectrum force with the capability to take care of state emergency operations and protect the homeland, while also answering our nation’s call in preserving our liberty and freedom by supporting our overseas contingency operations.

You’ve done all this and more with an excellence that is unequaled in the history of our First State military. This is a tribute to you, the great men and women of our Delaware National Guard. Your selfless service, dedication to excellence, and commitment to answering the call to duty has been nothing short of exemplary. It is truly an honor and privilege to serve with you!

As we celebrate during this holiday season, let us not forget the members of our units and others in the military serving throughout the world, those men and women and their families who will spend the holidays separated from their loved ones, on point as our representatives of freedom. Keep them in your thoughts, prayers, and actions. My wish for all members of our Delaware National Guard family is that the many blessings of our great country be bestowed on you and yours. You truly make a difference every day!

Jane and I, along with the entire leadership of our Delaware National Guard, both Army and Air, send our best wishes for a blessed and joyous holiday season and a new year filled with happiness, good health, prosperity, peace, and security.

May God continue to bless all of you, the First State, and our great United States of America! All of you remain constantly in our hearts and in our prayers.

Francis D. Vavala
