The Delaware Air National Guard hosts their 15th Annual Retirees' Breakfast 8:30 a.m. Friday Oct. 8 at the air base in New Castle (2600 Spruance Drive, New Castle, DE 19720).

New media are welcome to attend. Please contact Sgt. Matwey at cell (302) 593-2126.

Several hundred retirees have signed up to attend the breakfast. The sign-up date is past.

Retirees will be served breakfast in the bay of the new hangar, before the hangar officially opens for business later this year. Brief remarks will be given by senior leadership of the Delaware National Guard and the 166th Airlift Wing and a few civilian dignitaries. Retirees receive a year-in-review briefing of unit activities and accomplishments describing how the unit is supporting the state at home and our nation at war, and a look at the challenges ahead.

Immediately after the breakfast, the Delaware Air National Guard Annual Honoree will be recognized. The individual's name will be painted on one of the unit's C-130 transport aircraft and remain there for a full year to recognize the service and contribution of that person. This year's honoree is retired Col. William Fox, past commander of the 166th Medical Group, part of the 166th Airlift Wing, Delaware Air National Guard, in honor of his distinguished military career and exemplary service to the Delaware National Guard over many years.

Since the Delaware Air Guard was founded in 1946 thousands of members have retired.
