Monday evening, Dec. 5, just before the San Diego Chargers play the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday Night Football, volunteers from the Delaware National Guard will join with family and friends to prepare a football-themed meal in the kitchen of the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware to serve to appreciative families who have a child at the A. I. DuPont Hospital for Children.

About 25 Delaware National Guard Airmen and Soldiers, to include current members, retirees and family members, have joined together on a volunteer basis once-a-month since 2002 and after duty hours to roll up their sleeves in the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware kitchen.

The organizer for the troops is Tech. Sgt. Amy Kline, Del. Air National Guard, who works at the air base in New Castle, Del.

"We are always looking for new smiling faces! Current members, retired members and families or friends of members are welcome!" said Sgt. Kline.

Over the years the volunteers pick a dinner theme to build a meal around. This Monday night the volunteers will be using food common to one of the competing football team's cities and/or create an assortment of tailgating food.

Previous meal themes have ranged from Mexican to Italian to breakfast. In February the troops held their 9th Annual Chili Cook-Off.

People normally volunteer from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Ronald McDonald House.

The Ronald McDonald House is located at 1901 Rockland Road, Wilmington, DE 19803.

The Ronald McDonald House of Delaware provides a safe, affordable "home away from home" to families of seriously or chronically ill or injured children who are being treated at area hospitals.

News media are welcome to cover the meal preparation, with the volunteer troops arriving (in civilian clothing) shortly after 3:00 p.m. Please contact the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware contact below ahead of time.
