Delaware Air Guard to conduct Veterans Day aircraft flyover of Delaware Memorial Bridge Plaza November 11
NEW CASTLE, Delaware -- The Delaware Air National Guard will conduct a two-ship C-130 aircraft flyover of the Delaware Memorial Bridge Plaza tomorrow morning, Friday, Nov. 11, Veterans Day, at approximately 10:20 a.m., before the formal ceremony begins on the ground just before 11:00 a.m.
The two C-130 Hercules transport aircraft of the 166th Airlift Wing, based at the New Castle Air National Guard Base, will takeoff sometime before 10:00 a.m., then get in position for the flyover. Airmen on the ground at the Delaware Memorial Bridge, as well as Airmen at base operations in New Castle Airport will coordinate with the aircrew.
The unit has previously conducted several flyovers on patriotic holidays such as Veterans Day and Memorial Day. The last flyover was Sept. 10, 2011, during a flyover of Delaware Stadium in Newark, Delaware just before kickoff for a University of Delaware home football game to commemorate Patriots Day and U.D. Service Appreciation Night.
"We are very happy to fulfill a request by the Delaware Veterans Commission to conduct this flyover," said Col. Jonathan Groff, wing commander, 166th Airlift Wing. "We will have a number of Airmen from the Delaware Air National Guard on the ground at the Veterans Day ceremony, joining Soldiers from the Delaware Army National Guard and several senior leaders of the Delaware National Guard as we gather with veterans from all of our U.S. military services and fellow members of our community."
