Release No. 2009-03-001, March 5, 2009

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NEW CASTLE, Delaware -- Five Airmen have been selected as the Delaware Air National Guard's Outstanding Airmen of the Year for 2008. This is the premier award in the enlisted recognition program for members of the Delaware Air National Guard.

Award selections are chosen for three categories based quarterly award selections made during the year. Each Airman is rated and selected based upon three criteria; 1) superior leadership and job performance, 2) significant self-improvement during their career; and 3) base and community service. Award winners for two other categories, First Sergeant and Honor Guard, are selected from nominations submitted at the end of the year. A board of senior enlisted members interviews each Airman and makes the award selection.

All Outstanding Airmen of the Year and the quarterly award winners will be recognized Saturday evening, March 7, at the Delaware Air National Guard's annual Enlisted Recognition Banquet held at the Deerfield Golf and Tennis Club, Newark, Delaware. Attending will be Delaware National Guard leadership, other officers, enlisted personnel and family members.

This is our time to give these Airmen the recognition they are due," said Chief Master Sgt. Holly Morris, Delaware Air National Guard Commander Chief.
