Welcome home and departure ceremony Saturday for over 300 Delaware Guard Airmen

Over 300 Airmen of the Delaware Air National Guard will be recognized this Saturday morning, August 1, during a welcome home and departure ceremony that begins at 10:30 a.m.

Various elected officials and senior military leaders will be present and make remarks.

The welcome home portion of the ceremony honors a group of five Airmen who recently completed a deployment to Afghanistan, and one Airman who recently completed a deployment to Germany.

The departure portion of the ceremony recognizes about 325 Airmen who will deploy this fall and winter on military missions to various locations in Southwest Asia.

About half of the Airmen will depart aboard multiple aircraft from New Castle in late October for a mission lasting over four months.

The other half of the Airmen will deploy for various six month missions, with individuals departing New Castle in smaller groups starting in October with departures continuing through February 2016.

The over 300 deploying Airmen comprise nearly every squadron of the 1,200 member 166th Airlift Wing.

News media organizations are invited. Please confirm attendance by providing the names of likely media representatives, along with DOB and driver's license number and state by 1 p.m. Friday, July 31, to allow time to coordinate access. Media must arrive on base Saturday no earlier than 9:30 a.m. and no later than 10 a.m.
