Welcome home for 210 Airmen after months of service in Operation Enduring Freedom
Pipes & Drums of the Delaware Valley join over 210 Airmen from the 166th Operations Group, 166th Maintenance Group and 166th Mission Support Group of the Delaware Air National Guard, their families and invited guests at a welcome home ceremony Oct. 16, 2011 in the main maintenance hangar at the New Castle ANG Base, Del. The Airmen completed missions lasting three to six months in various locations in Southwest Asia (primarily in Afghanistan), Europe and the U.S., chiefly in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. On stage are Maj. Mickey Kirschenbaum, the master of ceremonies, Del. National Guard Adjutant General Maj. Gen. Mishap-free flying hour milestones recognized
166th Airlift Wing Commander Col. Jonathan Groff (left) gives his wing commander’s coin to Senior Master Sgt. (Ret.) John R. Quigley (center), a Del. Moments earlier he presented the Military Airlift Command Individual Flying-Hour Milestone Award for attaining 15,000 mishap-free flying hours to Sgt. Quigley. This award was overlooked 21 years ago as the unit prepared to deploy overseas in Aug. 1990 after Iraq invaded Kuwait. Master Sgt. James D. Godby, an instructor loadmaster and current member of the 142nd Airlift Squadron, Del. ANG, and a resident of Newark, Del., reached the 10,000 mishap-free flying hour milestone last month, and was presented the Air Mobility Command award during the same ceremony at the 16th Annual Del.
