History-making general in Delaware Air Guard retires
Brig. Gen. Ernest Talbert, vice commander, Delaware Air National Guard, is pinned with a second star signifying the honorary rank of major general in the Delaware National Guard upon his retirement from the Delaware ANG in New Castle, Del. on Jan. 11, 2009. Gen. Talbert's wife Richelle and Delaware National Guard Adjutant General Maj. Gen. Francis Vavala perform the pinning on ceremony. Gen. Talbert, a rated command pilot with more than 6,500 flight hours, flew C-130 aircraft missions in Operation Desert Storm and was the 166th Airlift Wing commander in Operation Iraqi Freedom. During his 36-year career he became the first African-American colonel in the Delaware ANG, and the first and only African-American general in the over 350-year history of the Delaware National Guard. Before the formation
A banner-towing small civilian aircraft owns the sky over Ocean City, Md. shortly before a five-ship large formation of Delaware Air National Guard C-130 transport aircraft from the 166th Airlift Wing in New Castle, Del. flew overhead. Beachgoers at Md. and Del. coastal areas saw part of the 700-mile, three-hour training flight on June 7, 2008 over four states (Del., Md., Va., and N.J.) culminating in an airdrop over Coyle Field, N.J. and a return to home station at New Castle Airport, Del.
